Thats Me In The Real Jersey Obviously, 2 Years Ago Very Hungover at a Picnic Outside My Dorm
Today, 08/08/08 go figure, is the one year anniversary of this blog. Its also the start of the Olympics in "foggy" China, so put your masks on everyone! Here is my first post if you want to see how far it has all come. One year of blogging here at the Offside has been great, there has been some lean times which I aplogize for, but looking back on my posts, I have done 264 posts in 365 days, and have over 109 pages of comments, with 15 comments per page, which means 1635 comments in one year. Thats an average of 6 comments a post, which I think is pretty good given I put up some filler once and awhile. So those are my stats, because this is sport and thats the only numbers I could get for you. Ohh, a modest brag, but the first month I had 2,000 some page views, and last month I had 13,000. A steady improvement.

I have seen all of the flair up recently that because Rafeal has been signed, that Robinho was now ready to leave. I have also seen that Robinho was the subject of a 19 million euro bid from Chelsea. Now if Robinho and his pin head agent thought being included ...

My brother is not a very big soccer fan. He watches games when he comes across them, knows a few players, and seems to enjoy the experiences he has going to games with me. But he's definitely not a rabid fan. He is, however, quite capable of deft, analytical statements that really do reduce the games to their basic points.
For instance, I received this text message from him during last nights game at Giants Stadium: "Red bulls: not as good as barcelona". Oh so true, mon frere. As silly a statement as that is, it really does sum up what my basic thought on the game. I arrived 15 minutes late thanks to the stupid NJ Transit rerouting they did to keep express buses out of the construction zone or whatever there was near Port Authority and sprinted up to my seat (leaving my dawdling friends behind, of course, cause that's the type of man I am), arriving just in time to see Xavi delicately place the ball in the back of the net.

Here are some pictures of the Malaria No More event on Tuesday, August 5 at Chelsea Riverside Park in Manhattan. I hope you enjoy them and the unique view they offer into what it is that ultra elite athletes do when they're surrounded by small children and people taking their picture.
I reduced the file sizes a little bit and then on this page I scaled them down even further, but I left a direct link at the bottom of each picture so you can just click on that and see the larger image. They're on photobucket, so some of you may not be able to see them from work (for instance, my company has photobucket blocked).

18 players traveled to Bogota yesterday for Real's match with Independiente Santa Fe, and they have been staying in Bogotá's Victoria Regia Hotel. The match is today at the Nemesio Camacho Stadium at 17:30. The match is like every other preseason friendly, so I wont be watching because I am at work, but I am sure a few of our readers from Columbia may be interested in going to the game or catching it on television.

This post took me two weeks, so enjoy it.
So begins a new year in the cantera of Real Madrid. The Castilla team narrowly missed out on the promotion playoffs last season, but minus a few disguards and three players called up to the first team, they have every chance of pushing for promotion once again. They have also made some interesting signings, with the likes of Fran Rico from Pontevedra, Migeul Palanca and Jose Zamora from Espanyol, Guillermo Diaz Ubieta (a massive 18 year old center back) from Murcia who will probably be with the C team to start, and some other player I dont remember his name though, shoot. Ahh! Javier Modrego, who was with Castilla last season, but has now been purchased outright from Real Valladolid, and who is being called the "Xabi Alonso of Valladolid".
